Smoke

Open Field Farm September 1, 2020

The lingering smoke from the devastating fires of this season are weighing on all of us. The fog, for which we are always incredibly grateful, seems to react with the smoke and settle it into our valley. We have been missing the wind which clears it out. We are adjusting each day to the changing conditions and trying our best to care for the plants, animals, and ourselves when the air is unhealthy.

Last night the wind finally cleared the air. We took a family walk and I was felt as if I was gulping large breaths of the fresh air, so relieved for a break.

Even as we struggle with the smoke, we feel fortunate to be safe from fire and our thoughts are with farmers and friends whose farms who been affected more directly.

Jimmy Nardello Sweet Peppers are abundant right now! They are a thin skinned pepper with a delicious and complex flavor.

You can:

-Toss them whole with olive oil and salt and pan fry them until they are soft. Eat them whole as well or slice them up and add them to another dish.

-Slice them raw and add them to everything!

-Eat the raw, which is Teddy’s favorite way to consume them.
